Dubois County SWCD to host a Tour of Conservation Practices
Tour of Conservation Practices on Agriculture Land Scheduled The Dubois County Soil and Water Conservation District is hosting a tour of conservation practices on agriculture land on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at 2:00pm. Participants will tour area farms to learn about utilizing conservation practices on their own farms. Practices such as cattle feeding operations, fences, waterways, structures, rock chutes, stream crossings and more will be visited. The tour will begin and end at the Cover Pavilion at the Dubois County Fairgrounds. Participants will receive a complementary meal sponsored by German American Bank after the tour, followed by a short presentation. USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service staff will discuss the successful use of conservation practices, and how to utilize the USDA Farm Bill programs to help fund their projects. Good conservation practices help reduce soil erosion, prevent gullies from forming and improve water quality. Landowners and agricultural operators are encouraged to attend this tour to learn more about federal and state conservation programs, and what they can do for them. The conservation tour is being sponsored by the Dubois County Soil and Water Conservation District. Financial sponsors for the tour include German American Bank, Indiana State Department of Agriculture Clean Water Indiana Grant, and the Indiana Corn Marketing Council. Pre-registration is required. Please register no later than Monday, November 10, 2008. Please call 812-482-1171, Ext. 3 to register, or for more information. Information is also available online at www.duboisswcd.org
